Wake Bus Plan

GoTriangle | Wake County, NC | August 2021 – October 2022

Background

Public Participation Partners is leading the community engagement for the 2021-2022 Wake Bus Plan. The 2021-2022 Wake Bus Plan project aims to update the 2018 Wake County Bus Plan and create short-range transit plans for GoRaleigh, GoCary, GoTriangle, and GoWake Access. It is an extension of the Wake Transit Plan, which detailed goals for regional transit including connecting the region, connecting all Wake County communities, developing frequent, reliable urban mobility, and enhancing access to transit. The 2021-2022 Wake Bus Plan seeks to update and develop an implementation schedule, detailed operating and capital plans, and short-range transit plans for the Wake Transit Plan.

P3 Deliverables

As part of these efforts, P3 is responsible for coordinating between the individual transit agencies and municipal partners to plan and implement meaningful and equitable public engagement opportunities. This includes planning logistics for and facilitating traditional and/or virtual small group and public meetings, assisting with the development of meeting materials, developing online surveys and paper comment forms, coordinating the provision of translated materials and interpretation services, and composing meeting and comment summaries on public input. P3 also supports communication and outreach efforts, including project website content, social media posts, transit advertisements, postcard notices, press releases, flyers, yard signs, and direct stakeholder outreach through email and phone calls.

For the first phase of engagement, P3 developed unmanned polling stations that were distributed to 28 bus shelters across Wake County. Over the course of the month-long comment period, the polling stations gathered 2,630 responses to three questions. These questions asked about how transit riders got to the bus, what would help most improve their trip to the bus, and if they ride or would ride their bike, what would most help their bike ride.
