Woodcroft Parkway Extension

City of Durham | Durham, NC | February 2020 – Present

Background

Public Participation Partners is leading the public involvement planning and implementation for the Woodcroft Parkway study in Durham, NC. The project involves extending Woodcroft Parkway from its current location at Hope Valley Road to Garrett Road to help alleviate school traffic congestion on Garrett Road from the local high school and provide pedestrians access to the school from the neighborhoods along Hope Valley Road and the existing Woodcroft Parkway.

P3 Deliverables

Public Participation Partners is responsible for public involvement planning and implementation, which follows the City of Durham Equitable Engagement Blueprint. This includes public meeting planning and facilitation, web-based survey development, meeting notification creation and distribution, and language translation of materials.

Project Highlights

The Woodcroft Parkway Extension project began just before the onset of public health measures due to Covid-19. In response, P3 developed a virtual meeting with video content and an ArcGIS story map that visually displayed maps, graphics, and explanations of project information as well as an online survey. Throughout the 45-day comment period, P3 monitored page views and survey respondents to develop additional targeted outreach to underrepresented populations. These methods led to a successful virtual public meeting, with over 365 survey respondents and 3,640 page views.
